CASTLEMAINE IMMERSION

SERPENT SPINE - ANIMAL BODY: Ancestral Movement Immersion in Castlemaine, May 31-June 1.

A weekend of nature, movement and awareness practice, exploring the evolutionary anatomy of the human body and our ancient connection to the rest of the living world.

We will explore the serpent spine as the central axis of movement, breath, sensing and expression, of felt connection to our inner emotional world, of empathic connection to other people and animals and to the living world outside, and to our shared ancestry with all creatures back through deep time.

Exercises to gain precise movement of every tiny segment of the spine, ribcage, abdomen, the pelvic floor, the throat and the skull. To precisely direct the breath through these same areas, massaging the centre of the body from the inside out and feeling clearly the links between movement, breath, tension and our shifting emotional and mental states.

Ancestral movement patterns shared with fish, lizards, mammals and other primates. Exploring qualities of the animal body: softness, strength, elasticity, balance, agility, coordination, reflexes. Engaging with the landscape and tuning in to ecological processes, with the body.

This will be a camping event, with catered dinners. It is open to anyone interested in moving and feeling their bodies more deeply, and connecting to the natural world through physical practice. All of the practices are challenging but can be safely scaled according to individual needs and abilities.
